The Stockets are a sociable group who go hill walking throughout the year, generally in the Grampian area and other hills within a day's travel of Aberdeen.

The Club runs a monthly day walk on a Saturday or Sunday, using a private hire coach, often starting and finishing at different places.

Winter walks are 10 to 12 miles while summer walks are generally around 15 miles. Where possible a shorter and easier walk is also offered, catering for a range of fitness and ability. Once all are back on the bus, a pub stop is usually included on the way home.

Potential members are very welcome to give us a try. You are welcome to come along on two walks as a guest to see if this is for you.

The Walks

Our next walk is on Sun 08 Dec 24, December Walk and Christmas Meal in Ballater

Our programme of events is found here.

Places are reserved on a first come basis, including non members. To go on a walk, click here to log in or register as a new user or click on the 'Log In' prompt at the top of any page, then enter your details, respond to the registration confirmation email, and log in. You can also log in using a Google or Facebook account. You can then select an event from the Programme, select a payment method, then the 'Click to Attend or similar button. If you encounter problems, or have any questions, you can send an email to postmaster@stockets.org.uk.

The bus meets walkers at the corner of Midstocket Road and Gordondale Road in Aberdeen at the time stated in the walk description. Bus walks generally cost £20. Members and non members can book and pay online on this website. See the Payments and Refunds Policy here

An experienced walker accompanies each walk group to assist the less experienced on the route. Mountains can be dangerous of course, and walkers have a duty of care to themselves and to others. Further guidance from Mountaineering Scotland on club and individual responsibilities is found here. Advice on kit choice for newer walkers is found here.

Membership

With the exception of the first two walks, membership is required to attend club events. Membership costs £30 per year and is paid online at this website. 'Membership' will appear on the menu bar when fees are due.

Much of the fee goes to enrolling you as a club member of the governing body, Mountaineering Scotland, and through this you get insurance and other benefits, which you can find out about here.

Other Activities

The club has two away weekends, one in May and one in September, normally to bunkhouse type accomodation, where a mix of walking, eating and partying takes place.

We also have the Christmas Party on a Saturday in early December. After a shortish walk the club retires to a hotel where we can shower and change, have our dinner, play some games, do some dancing perhaps, and get a later bus home to Aberdeen.

Communication

This website is designed to work well on a smartphone so that members can look up information and sign up for events when out and about.

It is convenient to put a link to the website on your phone's home screen or other screen. You do this by opening this site on your phone and, on Android, click the three vertical dots at the top right corner. On Apple you click the 'Share' icon on the top toolbar. From either you then click 'Add to Home screen'.

To help spread the word about the club and let you know what is happening on a regular basis, we have just started an instagram account. Please follow, comment and share this if you use instagram.

We also have a private Facebook page for members, which we have had for a number of years. If you are not already signed up for this go to the facebook page and click 'Request to join' and you will be given access.

The club also has an email account postmaster@stockets.org.uk If you have any questions or problems please send in an email and we will do our best.
