Bridge of Orchy Hills Car Walk

This is a car walk. There is no coach for this walk, and no walk fee. Transport is by personal vehicle. Shared transport is encouraged. The walk organiser will help to coordinate transport.

This is a change from the originally advertised Beinn a Bhuird car walk and is now on the Saturday to aid travel to and from Bridge of Orchy.

Start time to be confirmed once numbers are confirmed during the week prior to the walk.

Beinn a' Chreachain and Beinn Achaladair are two Munros on the northern perimeter of the Bridge of Orchy range.

We start from the new car park, 1Km west of Achallader Farm at NN312437, walking along the old Loch Rannoch right of way for 3.5Km to the site of the previous bridge over the Water of Tulla.

Staying on the south bank, the path goes through Crannach Wood to the railway footbridge at NN349454.

Walkng parallel to the railway line to the Allt Coire An Lochain, we follow the burn up into the corrie to Lochan a' Chreachain.

From there a grassy east slope ascends to the NE ridge of Beinn a' Chreachain just below Pt 361. The NE ridge is our route to the summit at 1081m, NN373440.

Descending to the col above the corrie we then climb to the summit ridge of Meall Buidhe at 978m. Passing a cairn on our next descent to the col at 813m, we have a steep climb to the edge of the impressive NE corrie of Beinn Achaladair where the north ridge takes us to the second summit at 1038m, NN344432.

Continuing along the high ridge with views west to the Black Mount, we reach the south top and then descend to the col at head of Coire Daingean.

The return path north down the corrie leads to a further railway footbridge and a signpost to the carpark, avoiding the farm.

This is a long walk with significant ascent and descent. As an alternative to the full walk of 21.5Km, there would be the option to do either of the Munros individually.

Accomodation and food options are available in Tyndrum and Bridge of Orchy.
