Mountain Weather Information Service

Mountain Weather Information Service (MWIS) is a Scottish Government funded service. It provides a detailed three day weather forecast split into five areas of Scotland. For the majority of Scottish hillgoers, this is the first port of call when planning a day in the hills.

Avalanche Information for the Scottish Mountains

Another Scottish gorernment funded service. In winter time hardy forecasters walk up hills every day in six different popular mountainous areas in Scotland to examine the snow conditions, then create an avalanche hazard report. They also produce a very useful daily conditions blog.

Walkhighlands

Walkhighlands is an exhaustive free website which details thousands of walking routes in Scotland. You can view mapped routes with detailed descriptions on virtually all of the Scottish hills and create your own account to track which peaks you have climbed. It also has frequent articles by a wide range of Scottish authors.
